Zhenjiang, formerly known as Jingkou, Runzhou and Nanxun, is a prefecture-level city in Jiangsu Province and one of the 27 cities in the central area of the Yangtze River Delta. Approved by the State Council as an important port and scenic tourist city in the Yangtze River Delta of China. As of 20 18, the city has jurisdiction over three districts and three county-level cities, with a total area of 3,847 square kilometers, built-up area of 179 square kilometers, permanent population of 3196,400, urban population of 2,277,200, and urbanization rate of 7 1.2%.

Zhenjiang is located in eastern China and southern Jiangsu. It is a member city of Nanjing metropolitan area and an important part of the Yangtze River urban agglomeration. It is an important transportation hub in East China, connecting Nanjing in the west, Changzhou in the south and Yangzhou in the north.
