Zhenjiang, formerly known as Jingkou, Runzhou and Nanxun, is a prefecture-level city in Jiangsu Province and one of the 27 cities in the central area of the Yangtze River Delta. Approved by the State Council as an important port and scenic tourist city in the Yangtze River Delta of China. As of 20 18, the city has jurisdiction over three districts and three county-level cities, with a total area of 3,847 square kilometers, built-up area of 179 square kilometers, permanent population of 3196,400, urban population of 2,277,200, and urbanization rate of 7 1.2%.
Zhenjiang is located in eastern China and southern Jiangsu. It is a member city of Nanjing metropolitan area and an important part of the Yangtze River urban agglomeration. It is an important transportation hub in East China, connecting Nanjing in the west, Changzhou in the south and Yangzhou in the north.
Major cities in China, such as beijing-shanghai railway, Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, Shanghai-Nanjing high-speed railway, Shanghai-Chengdu expressway, Liyang expressway, National Highway 3 12 and National Highway 104, are the only intersections between the Yangtze River and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and Zhenjiang Port, the third largest port in the Yangtze River basin, is open to the sea.

The geomorphological trend of Zhenjiang City is high in the west and low in the east, high in the south and low in the north. Most areas belong to Ningzhen-Maoshan low mountains and hills, the beaches along the Yangtze River belong to the Yangtze River New Delta Plain, and the southeast of Danyang belongs to the Taihu Lake Plain. Ningzhen Mountain Range is generally east-west, with a total of 1 14 peaks, including 62 in the urban area, 45 in jurong city and 7 in Danyang.
Height of main peaks: Dahuashan 437m, Gaolishan 425.5m, Baohuashan 396.4m, Shilichangshan 349m and Wuzhou Mountain 306m. Maoshan is slightly north-south, which is the watershed between Qinhuai River and Taihu Lake. The heights of the main peaks are: Jiya Mountain 410.6m, Damao Peak 372.5m, Mashan Mountain 362.8m, Wawu Mountain 357m, Fangshan Mountain 307.6m and Mao Liang 307m. ..
From west to east, it is Shiye Prefecture, Zhengrun Prefecture, Xinmin Prefecture, Hechang Prefecture (now Jiang Xinzhou), Shunjiang Prefecture (now Gao Qiao Town) and Taiping Prefecture (now the whole territory of Yangzhong City).
