Guilin University of Electronic Technology, referred to as "Guidian" for short, is located in Guilin, a world-famous tourist city with mountains and rivers. It is built by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Selected as "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan", New Engineering Research and Practice Project, Key Construction University of Basic Capacity Building Project in Central and Western Universities, National Postgraduate Project of Building High-level Universities, First Batch of Universities' Scientific and Technological Achievements Transformation and Technology Transfer Bases, and China People's Liberation Army Reserve Officers Selection and Training Base.
National College Students' Innovation Experimental Plan, National Model College for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform, National College Students' Cultural Quality Education Base, and Guangxi First-class Discipline Construction College are the only universities with national defense characteristics in Guangxi. They are one of the 30 universities locked by the communication equipment pre-research project of the General Armament Department and one of the universities authorized by Beidou ICD.
The school was founded on 1960. 1980 Guilin Institute of Electronic Technology was established with the approval of the State Council. In 2006, it was renamed Guilin University of Electronic Technology. The school belongs to Fourth Ministry of machinery industry, Ministry of Electronics Industry, Ministry of Machinery and Electronics Industry, China Electronic Industry Corporation and Ministry of Information Industry. In 2000, the management system was changed to a combination of central and local governments, with local management as the mainstay.
