The pronunciations of Putonghua are níng, níng and zhá, which were first seen in the Oracle Bone Inscriptions era of Shang Dynasty and belonged to the pictophonetic characters of six books. The basic meaning of "Ning" is peace and stability, such as tranquility; Extended meaning refers to married women or children who leave home to go home to see their parents, such as favoring relatives.
In daily use, "Ning" is also often used as a noun, which means another name of Nanjing, such as Shanghai-Nanjing Line.
