Sanskrit was originally named "Bibolo Tree", and it was named Bodhi Tree because Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism, realized the Tao under the Bodhi Tree, which means "enlightenment". Even today, Hindu Shatuo people often think under the bodhi tree. Bodhi trees are widely planted in jungle temples in India, Sri Lanka and Myanmar, and India has designated them as national trees.

According to legend, when Sakyamuni Buddha meditated under the bodhi tree, the bodhi tree god took the leaves as a shelter to protect his peace of mind, hence the name. She is regarded as the earliest protector of Buddhism.
