The first day of the first lunar month in the Spring Festival was called "New Year's Day" in ancient times, commonly known as "Chinese New Year". After the founding of the Republic of China, it was renamed "Spring Festival". During the Spring Festival, people from other places usually rush home to reunite with their relatives. Open the door in the morning and set off firecrackers to welcome the New Year. Eating jiaozi or cake for breakfast symbolizes "promotion" and family reunion. Men, women and children put on new clothes and congratulate each other. Adults kowtow to children and call them "Happy New Year". Guests usually receive candy, peanuts, melon seeds, cigarettes and tea. For lunch and dinner, eat prepared rice and vegetables, which means "more than one year." On the first day, don't sweep the floor, don't splash water, and avoid using knives and scissors. The next day, the newlyweds went to their parents-in-law's house to pay New Year greetings.
