Why did Ji Kang, the Seven Sages of Bamboo Forest, break up with Dan Tao?

When we read the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, we know that the Three Kingdoms period is a very free and easy period. Scholars at that time liked drinking and being free and easy, which led to the unique style of masterpieces at that time. When it comes to the Three Kingdoms period, we have to talk about Wei and Jin Dynasties, but it is impossible to mention the Seven Sages of Bamboo Forest. We all know that the Seven Sages of Bamboo Forest are famous representatives of metaphysics in Wei and Jin Dynasties, and Ji Kang and Dan Tao are the second of the Seven Sages. They were friends for many years, but they broke up because of different ideas.

First of all, Ji Kang and Dan Tao were both famous literati in Wei and Jin Dynasties. Ji Kang was a famous thinker and writer in Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties. He has read widely since he was a child. He became a doctor because he married Cao Cao's great-granddaughter. He made friends with Ruan Ji and Dan Tao because he liked Laozi and Zhuangzi's theory. Later, influenced by Taoism, he lived in seclusion in the mountains. Dan Tao was a famous politician in the Western Jin Dynasty. Because of his outstanding political talent, he has been used repeatedly. Among them, seven sages of bamboo forest refer to Ji Kang, Ruan Ji, Dan Tao, Ruan Xian, Wang Rong, Xiang Embroidery and Liu Ling. As for the origin of the Seven Sages of Bamboo Forest, it is because Ji Kang lives in seclusion in Yang Shan, and there is a bamboo forest near Ji Kang's residence. Ji Kang often had six friends drinking and partying in the bamboo forest. At that time, the Buddhist atmosphere in Tianzhu was prevalent, so he took the bamboo forest as the topic.

Ji Kang and Dan Tao broke up mainly because of their different ideas. Ji Kang and Dan Tao broke up for two reasons. The first reason is that Ji Kang thinks his friend Dan Tao doesn't know himself. Ji Kang supported Cao Wei's orthodoxy in political position and thought that Sima Group was a rebel thief. However, Dan Tao joined Sima Group and wanted to introduce Ji Kang to Sima Group, so that Ji Kang thought that Dan Tao knew that he looked down upon Sima Group. The second reason is that Ji Kang thinks that Dan Tao has betrayed himself. Dan Tao had a dream of going into politics since he was a child, so he was appreciated by Si Mazhao and joined the Sima family. However, in Ji Kang's eyes, he thinks that Dan Tao pursues wealth and fame, which is contrary to Ji Kang's thought of advocating nature and indifferent to fame and fortune. Therefore, Ji Kang felt that it was a betrayal for Dan Tao to work for Sima Group, so Ji Kang wrote a letter to break up with Dan Tao.

Finally, Ji Kang broke up with Dan Tao, but Ji Kang actually understood that Dan Tao did it for his own life, so he entrusted his son to Dan Tao after Ji Kang's death.
