The diameter of clods is generally 8 ~ 10 times that of trees, and the diameter of tree pits is 40 ~ 50 cm larger than that of clods. When planting poplar, willow and other seedlings without clods, the diameter of the pit is about 10 times that of the seedling DBH. If the soil is good, the pit depth is about 40 to 50 cm, and the pit depth and diameter with poor soil quality should be increased by 20 to 30 cm.
When planting seedlings, it should be consistent with the planting depth before seedling raising. Generally, it takes two or three people to plant seedlings. One person supports the tree and the other fills the soil, so that the seedlings are not easy to tilt and the roots are relatively strong.
If the DBH of saplings is greater than 5 cm, protective supports should be set for saplings after filling. Before watering the newly planted seedlings, the seedlings should be properly pruned, and dead branches, broken branches and diseased branches should be cut off. The number of pruning branches should not exceed one third of the original crown. When watering, put a weir around the tree and water it in the weir.
