Who knows the origin of the four ancient city gates in Datong: Heyang Gate, Yongtai Gate, Qingyuan Gate and Wuding Gate?

The Fourth Street of Datong Ancient City was named after the renovation of Datong City by General Xu Da in the fifth year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1372). There are four gates in the city, a nine-story double-eave, a three-story building on the top of the mountain, and a plaque engraved on the doorway, which is called Heyangmen in the east; Xiyuanmen; Nanyue Yongtai Gate; Wudingmen in the north.

After the completion of Xuda City, it became a strong military city to show off its merits, and four archways were built in the center of the city. Each archway is a four-column, three-bedroom and three-story archway with wooden structure, tile roof and towering columns. There is a main entrance in the middle of the archway, an inner and outer main entrance at the top, a large square forehead in the middle of the railing and "Heyang Street" in the east; "Qingyuan Street" in the west; South is "Yongtai Street"; To the north is Wuding Street. These four street names took 577 years from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to the Republic of China. In the early 1950s, with the demolition of towers and archways, the names of these four streets were abandoned and replaced by four streets, commonly known as East, West, North and South.
