Excuse me, is it windy at level 4-5?

4-5 winds are not too strong. Level 4 is called gentle wind, which is characterized by blowing dust and paper on the ground, shaking branches and undulating tall grass. Level 5 is called Golden Qingfeng, which is characterized by small trees with swaying leaves, small waves on the inland water surface, and obvious ups and downs of tall grass waves.

It is an important measure to release typhoon forecast, typhoon emergency report or emergency warning in time, serve the public through TV, radio and other media, let coastal fishing boats take shelter from the wind and return to Hong Kong in time, and provide decision-making basis for governments at all levels.

Formation principle

Typhoon is caused by high ground temperature and rising airflow. Because of the high ratio of wind to water vapor on the sea surface, the ground air is replenished along the ground, while the sea surface temperature is low, and the rising air and water vapor are absorbed to replenish the space. Because of the large sea surface and small temperature difference, there is a lot of water vapor accumulated over the sea surface and a wide range of rainfall. When water vapor condenses, its volume decreases, which supplements the surrounding water vapor and forms a strong wind.

Strengthening the monitoring and forecasting of typhoons is an important measure to reduce typhoon disasters. Meteorological satellites are mainly used to detect typhoons. The existence and size of the typhoon can be clearly seen on the satellite cloud picture. Using meteorological satellite data, we can determine the location of typhoon center, estimate the intensity of typhoon, monitor the direction and speed of typhoon movement, and the area where severe storms occur, which plays a key role in preventing and mitigating typhoon disasters.
