First of all, regardless of wages, the cost of living in Zhangjiagang is high. If you are not a foreigner, it is not cost-effective to stay in Zhangjiagang all the year round.
Secondly, among the five cities in Suzhou, Zhangjiagang is north, and the traffic along the river is inconvenient. The road to Shanghai is not as close as Taicang and Kunshan, and there is no high-speed rail. Generally, the high-speed train takes 30 minutes to Wuxi, the airport takes 30 minutes to Wuxi Shuofang, Shanghai Hongqiao 1 hour and Shanghai Pudong takes 2.5 hours.
Zhangjiagang has a small local population, and the foreign population is also decreasing in recent years. There is no nightlife and there are few bars and food stalls. If you are used to staying in Chengdu, you may not adapt to this small city.
However, the sanitary environment, greening and public security conditions are excellent. In addition to the morning and evening rush hours, there will be no traffic jams, and locals will not exclude them, including getting married and starting a family. Locals are not very hard on outsiders.
