Jiangnan Shipbuilding was founded by Jiangnan Manufacturing Bureau in the fourth year of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty (1865). In the early 1950s, it was renamed Jiangnan Shipyard, and 1998 was changed into a legal person enterprise. In June 2008, due to the construction of the World Expo and its own development needs, Jiangnan Shipbuilding moved from Huangpu River to Changxing Island as a whole.
