The cascade development and construction of several reservoirs in the main stream of Xiangjiang River can adjust the water quantity of Dongting Lake, make the seasonal change of water level in Dongting Lake smaller and reduce the flood disaster in the lake area.
(2) It can reduce the sediment deposition in Dongting Lake, which is beneficial to the protection and restoration of the lake ecosystem;
(3) It is beneficial to the prevention and control of schistosomiasis in Xiangjiang River Basin and the surrounding areas of Dongting Lake.
