Haavik is good at all kinds of imaginable literary styles and publishes highly original and widely acclaimed works, such as poems, novels, radio plays, TV plays and opera plays.
The life of the character
Paavo Haavik was born in a merchant family, the third son of Haike Haavik and Lao Hai Pikner. When I was a child, Haavik had a slight language barrier and couldn't pronounce the sound "R" accurately. His father is a bookbinder and owns his own company. He began to import some office supplies and paper. 195 1 died at the age of 64. In the same year, Haavik graduated from Cario Mixed School.
1951-1952 Haavik's appendix was perforated during his service in Hamina. During the training school, he tutored mathematics for the daughter of a sergeant major and read an economics book. Haavik worked in the family company for a while before he devoted himself to writing. In 1950s, Haavik was at the forefront of the flourishing modernism movement at that time. In the next few decades, he had an important influence on other writing styles. As far as literary achievements are concerned, he became a leading writer in Finnish literary world at the same time and even after the war.
Haavik once joined Otava, an influential publishing company in Finland. From 1967 to 1983, he served as the manager of the literature section there, and became a member of the board of directors in the late 1960s. After Otava's financial situation and literary image were restored, he was forced to leave. At the same time, the company was widely criticized for losing his arm.
Personal work
195 1 year, the first book of poetry, The Road to the Distance, was published. There is no trace of a poetic apprentice in this collection, which already contains some of Haavik's favorite images: kings, palaces, gardens and trees.
In Talvipalatsi (1959), Haavik developed modernist skills. This work is regarded as the highest achievement of new poetry. "I carved the photos side by side on the silverware to make them talk." Haavik said in his first poem. Haavik is concerned with the problems and conditions of writing, and his relationship with language or the world with limited possibilities.
Toinentaivasjamaa (1961) analyzes the events leading to double suicide.
Years (Vuodet, 1962) depicts the life of a lifeless tramp. Haavik's unique philosophy of doubting the world is based on the compromise between totalitarian ideology and liberalism, and developed and formed in his early novels and plays.
In the 1960' s, Haavik only published a collection of poems, All Trees in Greenhouse (Puut, kaikkiheidanvihreytensa, 1966), which made a very ironic comment on the modern history of Finland.
During the period of 1980, Haavik tried many styles: poems, aphorisms and their comprehensive creation, which were all reflected in his book "On Civil Liberties-Civil Liberties" (1989).
Personal life
Haavik's first wife was an outstanding writer Marja Li Izabal Tiao (1924- 1966), followed by Latva Ranio. The unfortunate death of his first wife broke his heart; Haavik never fully recovered from it and never stopped blaming himself.
