Le 'an River pollution incident
In Dexing City, Jiangxi Province, many mining enterprises under Jiangxi Copper Group have discharged industrial wastewater into Le 'an River for many years, endangering hundreds of thousands of people downstream. However, mining enterprises and environmental protection departments claimed that Dexing had a history of mining copper mines as early as the Tang and Song Dynasties, and the pollution was mainly caused by abandoned mining areas in previous dynasties, so modern enterprises should not suffer on behalf of history. Le 'an River is an important tributary of Poyang Lake, which was called "Mother River" by Dexing and Leping people in history. However, mining enterprises such as Dexing Copper Mine, a subsidiary of Jiangxi Copper, a listed company, have been expanding, and the downstream leping city has been polluted, involving about 420,000 people in 9 townships.
