Cofas was founded in 1946, headquartered in Paris, and affiliated to Natexis. At the beginning of its establishment, Cofas mainly engaged in French official export credit insurance business.

Sri Lanka has expanded to the world, and its corporate territory has been extended to Britain and Italy, and a network of credit institution alliances has been established with other credit insurance institutions.
1994, Cofas group changed from a state-owned institution to a private enterprise, but continued to be the official business agent of the French government.
In 2006, Cofas Group was wholly owned by the French Foreign Trade Bank.
