How big is the impact of mangroves on the ecological environment when a large area of mangroves has disappeared in Beihai, Guangxi?

In April, 20021year, the seventh central eco-environmental protection inspector group inspected Guangxi. After a period of observation, it was found that a large area of jadeite mangroves in Tieshan Port, Beihai, Guangxi died, and even some mangroves were directly cut down. Through investigation, it is found that the cause of the large-scale death of mangroves is caused by the construction of Langen operation area in Donggang District of Tieshan Port in Beihai. The illegal construction of Donggang in Tieshan Port of Beihai directly led to the damage of more than 200 acres of mangroves.

Mangroves are also called marine green lungs. Mainly woody plants growing in tropical and subtropical coastal areas. It has the functions of wave attenuation and bank protection, seawater purification, maintaining offshore biodiversity, carbon sequestration and scientific research. In addition, mangroves are important habitats for many endangered waterfowl.

According to the reporter, it is not the first time that mangroves in Guangxi have been destroyed. During an inspection on 20 16, it was found that there were illegal constructions in Tieshan Port and Donggang District of Beihai. Appraised by professional departments, by May 2020, the damaged area of mangroves in this area reached 257.67 mu, which directly led to the death of mangroves 102.6 mu and 37,988 dead pigs. It is the ecological environment in this area that has been seriously damaged. The behavior of the construction unit in Donggang District of Tieshan Port in Beihai has seriously violated the Regulations on Mangrove Resources Protection in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Beihai Tieshan Port Donggang Construction belongs to Beibu Gulf International Port Group Co., Ltd. and is also a large state-owned enterprise directly under the government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The illegal construction department is Guangxi Tieshan Dongan Wharf Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Beibu Gulf Port Group. On April 30, 2020, Beihai Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources issued a shutdown and rectification order. However, the company refused to stop work on the grounds that the cause of mangrove death was unknown. It was not until May 5, 2020 that the company was forced to stop after being interviewed.

The death and destruction of mangroves in a large area will lead to the imbalance of ecological environment in this area. And mangroves themselves have considerable value. Such a large-scale death is also an unpredictable loss.
