Why did Sony acquire Ericsson?

Sony has established a joint venture with Ericsson, because Ericsson has a lot of patents and experience in the field of mobile phones and communications.

Sony Ericsson has as many as 6,000 patents, and if you count the patents of Sony and Ericsson, it will reach as many as 60,000. In terms of patents, Sony does not lose to any competitors.

After the glory of W and K series, Sony Ericsson has gone through ups and downs.

Today, with the increasing homogenization of smart phones, feature phones have no advantage, and it is inevitable to break up.

Once, Sony was the king of the consumer electronics market. Some people think that Apple put an end to Sony's myth. For example, Gensonnie's Walk Man completely withdrew from the market with the iPod. In Sony's once brilliant TV field, Sony has been losing money for seven consecutive years.

After the acquisition of Ericsson, Sony can integrate its mobile phone business into its product line, and Sony's' four-screen strategy' (integration of mobile phone, TV, PC and tablet computer) can finally be implemented.

In the future, integrating Sony's advantages in music, movies and games and building an ecosystem beyond Apple will be Sony's destination.
