The cross section of the furnace is usually square or rectangular. Fuel burns in the furnace to form flame and high temperature flue gas, so the furnace wall around the furnace is composed of high temperature resistant materials and heat insulation materials. Water-cooled wall tubes are often laid on the inner surface of the furnace wall, which not only protects the furnace wall from being burned out, but also absorbs a lot of radiant heat from flames and high-temperature flue gas.
Furnace design needs to fully consider the characteristics of the fuel used. Every boiler should try to burn the fuel originally designed. When burning fuels with different characteristics, the economy and reliability of boiler operation may be reduced. The drum is a cylindrical container, which receives the water supply from the economizer, connects the circulation loop, and delivers saturated steam to the superheaters in natural circulation and multiple forced circulation boilers. The drum body is made of high-quality thick steel plate and is one of the heaviest parts in the boiler.
The main function of the steam drum is to store water, separate steam from water, remove salt water and sludge from boiler water during operation, and prevent boiler water with high salt and impurity concentration from entering superheater and steam turbine with steam.
The internal devices of steam drum include steam-water separation and steam cleaning device, water supply distribution pipe, sewage discharge and dosing equipment, etc. The function of the steam-water separation device is to separate saturated steam and water from the water wall, so as to minimize the fine water droplets carried in the steam. Baffle and slit baffle are usually used as coarse separation elements of medium and low pressure boilers. For boilers with medium pressure and above, various types of cyclone separators are widely used for coarse separation, and shutters, steel wire mesh or steam equalization plates are also used for further separation. The drum is also equipped with water level gauge, safety valve and other monitoring and protection facilities.
