PMI has been devoted to the research work in the field of project management. 1976, PMI put forward the idea of formulating project management standards. After nearly 10 years of efforts, in 1987, they launched the project management knowledge body (PMBOK for short). This is another milestone in the field of project management. Therefore, experts in project management call it "traditional project management" before 1980s and "new project management" after 1980s.
The knowledge system divides project management into nine knowledge areas: scope management, time management, cost management, quality management, human resource management, risk management, procurement management, communication management and comprehensive management.
PMBOK was revised twice in 1996 and 2000 respectively, which made the system more mature and perfect.
Nowadays, the project management method developed by PMI has been recognized by the whole world. PMI has become the authoritative organization of global project management, and the project management qualification examination (PMP) organized by PMI has also become the authoritative certification in the field of project management. Every year, a large number of people engaged in project management participate in PMP qualification certification all over the world.
