There are several ways to draw rifling.

1, cutting method, also known as single-point cutting method, is the oldest rifling processing method, and it is basically not used now. This kind of rifling processing method is to use a hook turning tool to reach into the eye of the blank, and then dig the material bit by bit to gradually form a groove. In the process of digging, turn the tool or pipe to keep the groove at a certain slope, so that the dug groove becomes the mother rifling. Cutting method is very labor-consuming and time-consuming, which is not suitable for mass production. It's hardly used now. However, this processing method has little damage to the metal structure of the barrel and is suitable for processing high-precision barrels. Many old gunners in Europe use this method to process high-precision pipes.

2, the die extrusion method is also called the overhead method. Rifling method was invented by mike walker, an engineer of Remington Company in the United States, in the 1950' s. The method is to drill a small hole at one end of the barrel, and then use a high-hardness die with a protrusion corresponding to the mother rifling to press the material from the hole with a high-pressure machine to form mother rifling and rifling.

3. Extrusion and cutting are "rifling", but the tools used are different. Cutting will lead to sharp rifling, but the manufacturing speed is fast; Extrusion will be slower, but the rifling is smoother, which is very suitable for small caliber guns, especially short barrel rifling. The technical term is "button rifling", but the word "cutting" is also used in many cases.
