Tang Shiyi was founded in 1903 (the 29th year of Guangxu reign). This used to be an old drugstore, but it was later transformed into a pharmaceutical workshop.

In 2000, Tang Shiyi Pharmaceutical Factory under Harbin Pharmaceutical Group was officially renamed as Tang Shiyi Pharmaceutical Factory of Harbin Pharmaceutical Group.
In June, 2005, Tang Shiyi Pharmaceutical Factory of Harbin Pharmaceutical Group was approved by China Business Federation as a member of "China Time-honored Brand".
In 2006, the registered trademark of Tang Shiyi Pharmaceutical Factory of Harbin Pharmaceutical Group was recognized as "China Time-honored Brand" by the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Commerce. Tang Shiyi ranked 34th in the first Top 100 list of China's time-honored brands, and it is one of the few pharmaceutical enterprises in Heilongjiang Province to enter the Top 100 list.
In April, 2008, according to the strategic development needs of Harbin Pharmaceutical Group, Tang Shiyi Pharmaceutical Factory of Harbin Pharmaceutical Group was integrated with the Second Chinese Medicine Factory and the Third Chinese Medicine Factory of Harbin Pharmaceutical Group, forming a large-scale professional production base of traditional Chinese medicine with total assets exceeding 654.38 billion, integrating sales, production and scientific research, and complete traditional Chinese medicine and modern Chinese medicine, and its comprehensive strength was further enhanced.
In June, 2009, Tang Shiyi Pharmaceutical Factory of Harbin Pharmaceutical Group was recognized as the time-honored brand of Longjiang by the Department of Commerce of Heilongjiang Province.
