The company has jurisdiction over three railway trunk lines in Bao Jing, Beitongpu and Daqin and four branch lines in Kouquan, Yungang, Ningdong and Pingshuo. It connects Shenshuo, Dazhun, Anning and Jigang, spanning Shanxi, Hebei, Beijing and Tianjin. The total operating mileage of the line is 1 157.3KM, and the total extended length is 3185.87km. The company has grass-roots units such as vehicle service, locomotive service, vehicle, power supply, electricity service and public works. By the end of March 2006, the company had 40,728 employees.
The coal reserves in the company's economic attraction area are nearly 600 billion tons, accounting for about 60% of the total coal reserves in China. Daqin Railway, managed by the company, is the first unit electrified heavy-haul coal transportation special line in China and the main channel for coal transportation in Shanxi, Shaanxi and western Inner Mongolia. It undertakes the transportation tasks of coal production and export from four major power grids, ten major iron and steel companies and more than 6,000 industrial and mining enterprises in China, accounting for nearly 1/7 of the total railway coal transportation in China, and users radiate to 15 countries and regions and 26 provinces and regions. Since 1988 was put into operation, 5000 tons, 1000 tons and 20000 tons of heavy-haul trains have been operated successively. In 2002, the coal transportation volume exceeded 1 100 million tons for the first time, in 200310.20 million tons, in 2004/kloc-0.500 million tons, in 2005, 200 million tons, and it is expected to exceed in 2006.
