Yunnan Aluminum Industry: Yunnan Wenshan Bauxite, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, has a resource reserve of about 65.438+500 million tons. The company strives to increase the development of bauxite in Wenshan area. Relying on its own advantages in bauxite resources, Wenshan, Yunnan Province has formed an annual production scale of 6.5438+0.4 million tons of alumina, which provides a strong bauxite-alumina resource guarantee for the development of the company's hydropower aluminum industry.
Extended data
Aluminum is the most abundant metal element in the crust. It combines with oxygen and hydrogen to form bauxite, which is the most commonly used aluminum in ore mining. Aluminum chloride was first separated from metallic aluminum in 1829, but it was not until 1886 that commercial production began. Aluminum is a silvery white, hard but light metal (specific gravity 2.7). This is a good conductor of electricity and is very resistant to atmospheric corrosion. Because of these characteristics, it has become an important metal. Aluminum alloy is widely used in various industries because of its light bonding strength.
Aluminum metal extraction is divided into three main stages-bauxite mining, ore refining to recover alumina and alumina production aluminum smelting.
Bauxite mining adopts surface mining (open-pit mining), bulldozers and scrapers are used to remove the surface soil cover, and then vegetation reconstruction is carried out in this area. Sometimes it is better to restore the original state than to convert it into agricultural land. If necessary, the bauxite at the bottom can be crushed with explosives, which are made by loaders, shovels or hydraulic excavators before mining. Sometimes, bauxite is crushed, washed, some clay and sand are removed, and then dried in a garbage rotary kiln. Others may just be crushed or dried bauxite. Then, the ore is loaded on trucks, train cars, or placed on conveyor belts, transport ships or refineries.
In almost all commercial operations, alumina is extracted from the Bayer process of bauxite refining. This process was discovered by Karl Bayer in 1888.
