According to media reports, Samsung SDI will first prepare a test line for Tesla's 4680 battery at the Cheonan factory in South Korea. After the trial production is completed, the mass production will be arranged in the battery factory in Furong, Malaysia. Equipment required for related trial production has been ordered.
Samsung SDI is preparing at least two versions of the 4680 battery, one of which is less than 80 mm in length. According to the analysis, the relevant length-adjusted battery is intended to win customers from companies such as BMW and expand the company's existing market share. The trial line will initially provide an annual production capacity slightly lower than 1GWh, which can be expanded to 8- 12 GWh in the future.
