company profile
Fairchild Semiconductor was founded in 1957, but when it comes to Fairchild, we have to mention another story, that is, Dr. W. shockley, the "father of transistors" who made "the greatest invention of the 20th century". 1955, shockley left Bell Laboratories and returned to his hometown of Santa Clara to create "shockley". Soon, because of admiring the title of "Father of Transistors", countless cover letters rained down on shockley's desk. In the following year, eight young scientists from the eastern United States came to Silicon Valley one after another to join the shockley Laboratory. They are: N. Noyce, R. Moore, J. Blank, E. Klinner, J. Henny, J. Raster, S. Bobetz, V. Grinich, all of whom are under 30 years old and in their prime of life, and all of them are at the peak of their creativity. Among them are people with double doctorates, engineers from big companies, and researchers and professors from famous universities, which is also an unprecedented gathering of talents in the western United States. Noyce, 29, is a veteran of eight people and the most determined one who defected to shockley. When he flew to San Francisco, the first thing he did was to give everything for his next residence and decide to settle permanently, regardless of the working environment, conditions and treatment. The other seven young people came to Silicon Valley and all had similar experiences with Noyce. Unfortunately, shockley is a talented scientist, but he lacks management ability; He is ambitious, but he knows nothing about management. Terman once commented: "In the eyes of talented young people, Shockley is a very attractive figure, but it is difficult for them to have anything to do with him." During this year, the laboratory didn't develop any decent products. Eight youths began to plan to leave without telling shockley. Under the leadership of Noyce, they submitted their resignation to shockley. Shockley angrily called them "traitorous group of eight". The young people looked at each other, but left a "Bole" that attracted them, and then they got together. However, even Shockley himself changed his mind and called them "the rebellion of the Eight Geniuses". In many books and periodicals in Silicon Valley, the photos of "Eight Rebellions" belong to the same level as those of HP's garage and have the same historical value.
