In early 2008, China was hit by the worst snowstorm in more than 50 years. At that time, Cargill (China) was one of the first American companies to provide disaster relief assistance, helping children affected by snowstorms rebuild their schools and providing them with winter clothes.
Cargill (China) Company was nominated as the final candidate for the 2008 Outstanding Enterprise Award awarded by the US Secretary of State in recognition of its work in disaster relief, promoting sustainable agriculture, food safety and environmental protection, and Cargill Care Council (a volunteer network mainly established by the company).
Chiar, president of Cargill, said in a written interview with America.gov: Cargill strives to become a world-class outstanding corporate citizen in China. He said: Cargill has a unique ability to contribute its global experience and expertise, which can help China achieve the goal of increasing population income and developing rural areas. Ke Chiar also said: By improving the efficiency and output value of agricultural products production, processing, sales and trade in China, we are committed to promoting the development of sustainable agriculture in China and ensuring food supply. Cargill has provided more than 2 million farmers in China with training in crop fertilization, livestock breeding and feeding technology, aiming at improving the health and yield of livestock and poultry.
In 2008, Cargill signed a cooperation agreement with China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine to set up a food safety management training program. Cargill's 34 factories in China have established internationally recognized production quality monitoring systems to prevent food-borne pathogens from entering the food chain during food production and processing.
In 2007, Cargill, in cooperation with China Children's Fund, launched the Cargill Care for Rural Education Project and restored 40 rural schools. The program will benefit10,000 children in 2008. Through Cargill China Care Committee, Cargill employees have contributed more than 24,000 hours of voluntary service to the local community.
Cargill is also committed to protecting China's biodiversity and freshwater ecosystem, including the Sanjiangyuan National Nature Reserve. This nature reserve is the source of the Yangtze River, the Yellow River and the Mekong River, and the second largest nature reserve in the world. Maintaining the ecological normality of these rivers is related to the livelihood of nearly 600 million people downstream. According to the US Embassy in Beijing, Cargill's actions to clean up polluted areas and educate local residents to protect water resources will have a long-term strategic impact, ensuring the protection of animals and plants in this area and ensuring the livelihood of farmers who depend on these river systems.
Kelly Caskey, who worked in Cargill (China) for one year, said that Cargill employees contributed to the well-being of the local community by tirelessly providing voluntary services for activities such as Earth Day. Cargill will provide $654.38+300 million in aid to rural schools in China in two phases, and jointly launch the "Cargill Care for Rural Education Plan" with China Children's Fund. Peng, Chairman, CEO and President of Cargill, and Ms. Feng Cui, Vice Chairman of China Children's Fund attended the signing ceremony of the agreement.
According to the agreement, Cargill will donate US$ 500,000 to repair and transform 20 rural schools in the first phase, and if the project goes well, it will invest another US$ 500,000 to support the project in fiscal year 2008-2009. At the same time, the $300,000 raised by the marathon employees will also be used for the project.
