The Historical Background of Great Wall Film Company
Before and after the founding of New China, the interaction between the mainland and Hong Kong film industry intensified. After the war, mainland filmmakers who "went south" to Hong Kong for different purposes and some local Hong Kong filmmakers returned to the mainland in batches, which became an important part of the development of the new China film industry. At the same time, more mainland filmmakers who went south to Hong Kong stayed in Hong Kong. These people, such as Zhang Shankun, Du Qing, Feng Yueh, Tu Guangqi and Weibang Ma Xu, are pure commercial filmmakers who are unwilling to cooperate with China or are not ashamed to cooperate with China. There are also some filmmakers from China who have more political purposes, such as Si Mawensen and LAM Raymond. No matter what the purpose is, these filmmakers must first survive in Hong Kong and have their own positioning. So these left-behind filmmakers in Hong Kong cooperated with some local filmmakers to form, reorganize and join large or small production companies, such as Great Wall Film Company, Xinhua Film Company, Phoenix Film Company and Asian Film Company. Mainly producing Mandarin films, Xinlian Film Company and Overseas Chinese Film Company. Under the influence of mainland filmmakers, Hong Kong films in the early 1950s developed completely in terms of aesthetics and industry, especially Cantonese films. Known as the "New Great Wall" in Hong Kong film history, Great Wall Film Production Co., Ltd. was founded in 1950 and reorganized from the old "Great Wall" founded by Zhang Shankun in 1949. The main helm is Yang Anyuan, and the creative team includes not only directors and directors such as Feng Yueh, Du Qing, Liu Qiong and Cheng, but also many famous actors such as Yan Jun, Li Lihua, Han Fei and Tao Jin.
