What's the experience of working in Microsoft?

Most of the answers in this answer, including mine, will be one-sided. This is because understanding a big company can't be done overnight, and veterans who have been mixed for more than ten or twenty years will not come here to answer questions and find a sense of existence. So the comments you see, especially the corporate culture, are the cultures of colleagues who have only worked in Microsoft for several years or months. There is no irony, because I am among them. Just a reminder, listening is bright and listening is dark.

But even so, there are some contents that can be collected in order, mainly information related to enterprise hardware. Such as welfare benefits, working environment, salary (this company has rules not to say) and so on. If these contents are not subjective falsification, there are basically no mistakes, which can be used as a very suitable reference.

Because Microsoft is still very reliable in treating most employees who have left the company, it should not see many special black Microsoft answers. But this will also lead to a problem, that is, the answer is more about Microsoft's advantages, and avoid shortcomings. So I want to make it clear here, but unfortunately my answer will be the same-after all, my boss has paid attention to Weibo, who knows if he will see this answer one day? W = As for how to do it, please refer to the first point, or think again. ...

Well, since the hardware content exists objectively, let's talk about Microsoft's hardware. Try to pick something that no one else has written.

The first is the salary that everyone is most concerned about. The numerical value can't be said because of the regulations, but as an undergraduate recruited in the New Year, it's no problem to have a good life in Beijing. If you want to save money, save it.

That's all about wages! If you want to know, it's gone. Ask HR after the interview!

The working environment, as you can imagine, is definitely better than most companies. Just look at my R&D department. There are two self-built 15 and 20-storey buildings in the fourth ring road. How many companies in Beijing can do it?

In fact, the working environment is also very comfortable. The company's internal ventilation system ensures that PM2.5 is a single digit all the year round, warm in winter and cool in summer. Of course, we often complain about the uneven temperature distribution inside the building. It's greedy to think about it ...

The floor is carpeted, so there won't be much noise when you walk or pull a chair. There will be no construction and cleaning work during office hours, which are usually done on weekends. It is estimated that the noise sources of the whole building mainly come from loud colleagues and mechanical keyboards.

There are many conference rooms and conference rooms on each floor. The latter is a small room that can accommodate three or four people. The sound insulation effect is very good, which is very suitable for several people to discuss temporarily or meditate by themselves.

FTE (full-time employee) has a large seat, so it doesn't matter if the desktop is messy. However, interns can be miserable sometimes. If you can book a single room by yourself like @ Guan, it is simply to pay RP in advance. Generally, interns will still be assigned FTE seats if they have seats, but when the seats are tight, three people will squeeze two adjacent seats, or even two or three people will squeeze a focus room.

As the saying goes, food is the most important thing for people. Unfortunately, Microsoft is not so perfect in this respect. Of course, this is not perfect. After all, I have a canteen, a western restaurant, a Chinese restaurant and a coffee shop, and the food safety is quite good, and various supervision and reporting mechanisms are also perfect. In addition, every floor has all kinds of fruits, drinks and snacks every day, which is no problem for a large number of leading companies.

However, compared with the big Google, it is still a little worse!

First of all, the canteen is charged. Although there are supplements, if you eat two meals a day in the company, you still have to pay some money for a creature with a large appetite. Personally, the food in Beijing canteen is not as delicious as Google's. Fortunately, there are many choices, and you can often change to eat. In Shanghai, I think the taste is not too bad, but there are fewer kinds. Suzhou can only go to the canteen outside, and it is tragic to be crowded with companies in nearby parks.

Secondly, drinks are often finished around 6 o'clock, and snacks are sometimes not seen all afternoon. There are only two batches of fruit in the morning and at 3 pm. It seems that Google supplies it all day.

There are freshly ground coffee machines and beverage machines on each floor. The specifications of this different campus are not the same. There seems to be no beverage machine in Shanghai, but the coffee machine is better than that in Beijing, and it can also make milk bubbles. Only seen in Suzhou, never used. It looks better than Beijing's. This Google side is similar, right?

As a tall company, how can it be just right? Recreational activities that can relax employees are a must!

There are quite a few recreational activities in Beijing, mainly sports. There are (if I remember correctly) 7 ping-pong tables, 2~3 pool tables, some table football and a gym. The gym charges now, but the fitness fee can be reimbursed and the equipment is relatively complete, but it is still not enough in the afternoon and evening rush hours. Then there is a room on the floor of the table tennis room, where there is a drum set, several guitars and bass. Later, I learned that several colleagues formed a band. In addition, there are many clubs in the company, such as football and badminton board games, which organize activities regularly, such as renting a football field in the National People's Congress every Tuesday. I don't seem to watch XBox much. I've seen it in the lounge on some floors, but it doesn't seem to work, and I haven't seen anyone playing.

In Shanghai, there is a game room on every floor, which contains table tennis, table football and XBox. It's just that when I'm around, the handle of the XBox is often dead, and I have to bring my own battery. I don't know what is happening now.

Suzhou is still very hard. There is nothing in the company except a football on every floor. If you want to have fun, you must go out and find it yourself. Why do colleagues in Suzhou work so hard? The main reason is that Microsoft's own building in Suzhou Park has not been built yet, and the current building is rented. So when the building is completed in a few years, it should not be worse than Beijing and Shanghai.

In addition to sports, the company or each team will organize many activities every once in a while. Some go through the official process, and some pay their own expenses. The latter basically depends on the atmosphere in the group. For example, before we had a group, we often went to find a fresh place to eat and play cards. Officially organized activities, such as annual conferences, are also called trips. And family days and things like that.

Next, talk about the company's geography and surrounding environment.

The geographical location of Microsoft R&D department in China is characterized by its proximity to the best local universities. For example, Beijing is surrounded by Tsinghua Peking University People's Congress, Shanghai is next to Jiaotong University, and Suzhou is Suzhou University. For the convenience of recruitment, everyone knows this. Through the grapevine, I heard that at that time, the Beijing government allocated a piece of land to Microsoft in a far place, which was much larger than the current two buildings, but it was rejected because it was too far away from Qingbei.

As a result, the building in Beijing was built in the bustling area within the Fourth Ring Road of Zhongguancun. This also greatly facilitates colleagues. There are restaurants, cinemas, supermarkets and shopping malls everywhere. It takes ten minutes to walk to the subway station and ten minutes to ride to Qingbei.

But Shanghai and Suzhou are even worse, located in Zizhu Science Park and Suzhou Industrial Park respectively. The former is located in Minhang District, and it is also affectionately called Minhang Development Zone by our students at Jiaotong University. The latter doesn't look very remote either, but I walked out at night on my last business trip and couldn't find a place to eat.
