Financial institutions refer to intermediary organizations specializing in monetary and credit activities. Financial institutions in China can be divided into four categories according to their status and functions: the first category is the central bank, namely the People's Bank of China. The second category is banks, including policy banks and commercial banks. The third category, non-bank financial institutions, mainly includes state-owned and joint-stock insurance companies, credit cooperatives, securities companies, finance companies and so on.
