As early as 1974, Monsanto Company (generally translated as Monsanto, now Solutia) developed PP/EPDM dynamic vulcanized rubber, which is a new elastomer with both plastic processing characteristics and rubber physical properties. 1980, the elastomer was officially commercialized under the trade name of Santoprene.
The trade name Santoprene consists of two parts, in which "Santo" comes from Monsanto, and "prene" is the English suffix of diene rubber, such as neoprene of DuPont and Renprene TPV of Metersbonwe Bang Wei. Santoprene is commonly transliterated as "Du Shanping" or "Du Shan Film".
1990, ExxonMobil Chemical and Monsanto set up a joint venture company AES (Advanced Elastomer System) to be responsible for the further research and development and marketing of Santoprene. In 2002, ExxonMobil acquired all the shares of Shounuo in AES, and now AES is a wholly-owned subsidiary of ExxonMobil.
