Dagang Village, the largest administrative village in Zhili Town, has 2739 mu of cultivated land, 544 mu of mulberry fields, 539 farmers and a population of 2263. This used to be a famous poor village. In the early 1990s, under the leadership of Zhu Xinkang, secretary of the village branch, industrial enterprises were set up around Zhili cotton market to get rid of poverty and become rich, thus achieving a well-off society. 1998 industrial and agricultural output value is 250 million yuan, tax profit15.2 million yuan, per capita income is 6538 yuan, and village collectives own fixed assets of 42.7 million yuan. Agricultural infrastructure has been improved in an all-round way, and all farmland in the village has been zoned. Public welfare undertakings such as roads, running water and schools have developed rapidly. It was named "Zhejiang Demonstration Villagers' Committee" by the Provincial Civil Affairs Department, and was awarded the honorary titles of "Top 100 Villages with Comprehensive Economic Strength", "Well-off Demonstration Village" and "Civilized Village" by the Huzhou Municipal People's Government, and was listed as a pilot project for the construction of new socialist countryside and the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.
