The school was founded on 1972. In order to solve the problem of education for the children of the builders of Gezhouba Water Control Project, the first dam of the Yangtze River in China, the 330 Command established the "Children's Middle School of the Command Staff" and the "Children's Middle School of the Affiliated Primary School", and later renamed it "No.1 Middle School of the 330 Engineering Bureau", which is the predecessor of today's Gezhouba Foreign Language School. 1974 all the children's middle schools before moved into the new school building, which is where the school is today. The school has established the development plan of "educational modernization", paying close attention to audio-visual education and ensuring the funds for audio-visual education. The school has developed rapidly and made many amazing achievements in education and teaching. Especially since 1996, the school has implemented the "famous teacher project" and paid close attention to the construction of teachers, forming a team of teachers with noble professional ethics and solid professional skills; Strengthen scientific management, take "humanism" as the core, and advocate giving full play to people's subjective initiative. All this brought a new wind to the school, which soon grew into Gezhouba Window School. During the period of 1998, the school leadership was keenly aware that with the advent of knowledge economy and increasingly extensive international exchanges, there will be more and more demand for talents with foreign language expertise and computer expertise. Based on this, the school and People's Education Press jointly established Gezhouba English Ladder School in 1998. In the same year, the school was renamed as "Gezhouba Experimental Middle School", and the school strengthened the teaching reform experiment. On May 18, 2000, with the approval of Hubei Provincial Department of Education, the school was renamed Gezhouba Foreign Language School, becoming the only foreign language school in Yichang, eastern Sichuan and western Hubei at that time.
