The public communication network in Myanmar is owned by the state and managed by the Ministry of Communications, Posts and Telecommunications of Myanmar. Until the 1970s, there were only over 200 exchanges in Myanmar, of which only six were automatic exchanges, all of which were installed in the capital Yangon. At that time, there were only 174000 automatic telephone exchanges in Yangon, and the transmission of local, domestic and international calls was done manually.
