Hong Kong people call the subway MTR because the full name of MTR is Hong Kong Mass Transit Railway Company Limited (MTRC for short), which was founded in 1979 10 10/,formerly known as Hong Kong Mass Transit Railway Company, and the two railways merged on February 1 2, 2007. From the opening of 1979 to the merger of the two railways in 2007, Hong Kong Metro was operated by MTR Corporation Limited (now known as MTR Corporation Limited) and developed into a 7-line subway with 53 stations. Subway may refer to Shenzhen Metro Company Limited.
