Is China Telecom a state-owned enterprise or a central enterprise?

China Telecom is a state-owned enterprise, and China Telecom Group Co., Ltd. ("China Telecom" or "China Telecom Company" for short) was established in September 2000. It is a super-large state-owned communication enterprise in China and a global partner of Shanghai World Expo. It has been selected as one of the "Top 500 Enterprises in the World" for many years, mainly engaged in comprehensive information services such as fixed telephone, mobile communication, satellite communication, Internet access and application.

Before 1978' s reform and opening up, even until the end of the 20th century, the state-owned enterprises were always supported by the government. The establishment of state-owned enterprises, a large part of government tax revenue into state-owned enterprises, led to the establishment and emergence of a large number of state-owned enterprises.

Some state-owned enterprises are still transformed from the original government departments, such as China Telecom and China Mobile, which were originally the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and changed into telecommunications bureaus. Later, it was reorganized into China Telecom and China Mobile at the end of 1990s and the beginning of this century.
