What is "geocentric theory"?

Geocentric theory (or celestial motion theory) is the theory that the ancients thought that the earth was the center of the universe, motionless and other planets revolved around it. It is also the theory of ancient church belief.

The origin of geocentric theory is very early, first formed by Miletus School, then put forward by the ancient Greek scholar Oddoxus, and perfected by Aristotle, which further developed Ptolemy into geocentric theory.

In 1300 years before the establishment of Heliocentrism in the 6th century, "geocentric theory" was always dominant. Aristotle's geocentric theory holds that the universe is a limited sphere, which is divided into two layers: heaven and earth. The earth is located in the center of the universe, so the sun and the moon revolve around the earth and objects always fall to the ground.

There are nine equidistant celestial bodies outside the earth, and the order from inside to outside is: Moon Day, Mercury Day, Venus Day, Sun Day, Mars Day, Jupiter Day, Saturn Day, sidereal day Day, Motive Force Day. There is nothing in outer space. God promoted the celestial bodies of stars, which led to the movement of all celestial bodies. The earth where human beings live stands quietly in the center of the universe.

The "geocentric theory" developed by Aristotle

After Pythagoras 100 years, Aristotle, a Greek born in 384 BC, developed geocentric theory. His philosophical system made him try to explain the operating mechanism of the world and the universe for the first time. Thinking about why things happened made him pay attention to observation and took the geocentric theory a big step forward.

According to the moon's roundness, he pointed out that the earth blocked the moon, and then proposed that the earth was spherical. Pythagoras put forward that the earth is spherical, which is based on the harmony and perfection of natural laws, while Aristotle is based on observation.

According to his observation and speculation, he proposed that the earth is the center of the universe, and there are nine skies beyond the earth, namely, the moon sky and the sun sky. The nine layers of the sky are circular in turn, and the celestial sphere on the ninth layer is the original dynamic layer, which pushes other layers around the earth. He considered the dynamics of celestial motion for the first time.
