Is the pollution in Laizhou Bay in Shandong Province serious?

Not only Laizhou Bay, but also the whole Bohai Sea has been seriously polluted.

In recent years, with the rapid economic development and increasing population density around Bohai Sea, Bohai Sea has suffered land-based pollution. Authoritative monitoring data show that the pollution situation in Bohai Sea is extremely severe.

On July 5th, under the guidance of the staff of Yantai Marine Environmental Monitoring Center of State Oceanic Administration, the reporter of Outlook News Weekly found the sewage outlet of Yanjing Beer Laizhou Co., Ltd. in Laizhou City, Yantai, Shandong Province, which is located in a wetland near Bohai Sea. Near the sewage pipe, dark brown sewage gathered into a pond of more than 200 square meters, and a layer of dark green fat floating objects gathered on the shore, which smelled from time to time. Sewage is discharged into the sea separated by a dam through three cement pipes with a diameter of about 80 cm.

A staff member of Yantai Marine Environmental Monitoring Center told the reporter jokingly: "After reading this, you won't dare to eat Laizhou clams in the future, will you?"

In Xinlizao Village, Bohai New District, Cangzhou City, Hebei Province, the reporter saw a sewage outlet near Lingang Chemical Park, which was directly connected to the sea and the water was yellow-green. Ji Shengao, a villager, told reporters that the water quality of the underground wells in the village is still unqualified after purification. Now the villagers basically buy water to drink. More than 30 people in the village got thyroid disease this year.
