MEDLINE is an international comprehensive biomedical information bibliographic database produced by the National Library of Medicine (NLM), and it is the most authoritative biomedical literature database in the world at present. The contents include all the contents of American Medical Index (IM), as well as some contents of dental literature index and international nursing index.
MEDLINE has collected more than 3,400 biomedical journals published in more than 70 countries and regions since 1966, with nearly 9.6 million records. At present, 300,000-350,000 records are reported in the form of titles and abstracts every year, of which 75% are English documents and 70%-80% have English abstracts.
By the end of 1988, about 20 organizations were approved to convert MEDLINE database and distribute MEDLINE CD products, including Silver Platter, Cambridge, Dialog, etc. Although the retrieval functions, retrieval instructions and data structures of the products of the above companies are basically similar, they are also different. Since most of the products imported from China are silver disc products, this paper introduces the use of optical disc retrieval system with MEDLINE as an example.
Medline mainly provides literature on biomedicine and life sciences, and the data can be traced back to 1949. You can search by keyword, sub-keyword, keyword, title, author, publication, ISSN, document publication, publication year, publication country, etc. The major is suitable for clinical medicine, and the other three contents are the same, but the advanced and express functions are better and the retrieval is convenient. The standard has low requirements for updating and does not need a CD tower. MEDLINE CD files are updated once a month and can run in DOS and WIN environments.
PubMed is a free online Medline database, which also contains some latest documents that are not indexed.
