The relationship between Pixar and Disney is that Pixar is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Disney. In 2006, Disney bought Pixar for $7.4 billion. Although Pixar has become a part of Disney, it still retains the name of "Pixar Animation Studio" and continues to produce and distribute animated films as an independent brand. This partnership enables Pixar to take advantage of Disney's distribution network and marketing resources, while maintaining the independence of its creation and production.
