China banyan tree
Scientific name: banyan tree
Family name: Moraceae, Ficus.
Nickname: Zheng Rong and Xiao Yerong are its varieties, also known as banyan.
Morphological structure: the height of Ficus microcarpa can reach 20 meters, the trunk is stout and there are many air roots. Leaves alternate, obovate or ovoid, leathery, entire. Trapped flowers and fruits are obovate, purplish red or yellowish, which are the favorite fruits of birds. I have seen thousands of sparrows competing for the ripe banyan fruit on a banyan tree.
Growing environment: Ficus is strong, and its selectivity to cultivated soil is not strict. As long as the soil is well drained but not sticky, it can grow. If the soil is fertile, it will naturally flourish. Cultivation land needs good sunshine, likes high temperature and humidity, and is extremely drought-tolerant. The peak growth period is from spring to autumn, and the suitable growth temperature is about 23 ~ 32℃. Native to India, Malaysia, Australia, China, Japan and other places.
Propagation method: sowing, cutting, high pressure or grafting, and the suitable period is from spring to summer. The roots of seedlings are prone to hypertrophy, which is beneficial to the development of bonsai. High-pressure method is a widely used method for horticulturists because of its high speed.
Uses: Banyan trees are resistant to wind, moisture, drought, barren and pruning. Suitable for windbreaks, bonsai, street trees and garden trees.
