What are the uses of bauxite?

Uses of bauxite: Bauxite ore has many uses, the most important of which is to extract metallic aluminum as refractory and grinding material in aluminum industry and as raw material ore of high alumina cement.

Bauxite has excellent properties such as small thermal expansion, high fire resistance and stable volume at high temperature. It is a typical amphoteric oxide and a common raw material for refractories, so it is often used to make refractory products. Alumina-based aluminum silicate refractory fiber has the advantages of light weight, heat resistance, good thermal stability, low thermal conductivity, small heat capacity and mechanical impact resistance. It can be used in steel, nonferrous metallurgy, electronics, petroleum, chemical industry, aerospace, atomic energy, national defense and other industries.

Its manufacturing process is to put the high-alumina clinker into a high-temperature electric arc furnace with a melting temperature of about 2000 degrees, and after high-temperature melting, high-pressure and high-speed air or steam blowing and cooling, it becomes aluminum silicate refractory fiber. It can be pressed into fiber blanket, board or woven into cloth to replace refractory bricks for high temperature furnace lining in smelting, chemical industry, glass and other industries.

Distribution of bauxite origin:

Bauxite is known in 49 countries. China is rich in bauxite resources, about 3.7 billion tons, ranking among the top in the world, and is a big country in bauxite resources with Guinea, Australia and Brazil. However, only Guyana and China produce bauxite for refractories, and bauxite in other countries has high iron content, which is mostly used for aluminum smelting and grinding materials.

China is rich in bauxite resources. 18 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government have 205 bauxite producing areas, including 72 large-scale producing areas. Mainly distributed in Shanxi, Shandong, Hebei, Henan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangxi, Liaoning, Hunan and other places.
