Unilever, the Unilever Group, was formed by the merger of Dutch margarine company and British LeverBrothers soap company on 1929. Headquartered in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and London, England, it is responsible for the operation of food and washing products respectively. As early as 1930s, Lux brand soap and Umbrella brand soap invested and produced by China Soap Co., Ltd, the predecessor of Unilever, became the best-selling products in China market because of their excellent quality. 1986 Unilever returned to Shanghai, and the first joint venture, Shanghai Lihua Co., Ltd., continued to produce Lux soap. Limited by the living standard at that time, the use of Lux soap was regarded by young people as a symbol of openness and fashion.
