New energy development and construction is one of the six business sectors of China Offshore Oil. In 2006, the Party Group of China Offshore Oil Corporation proposed to develop and build new energy industry. In August of the same year, China CNOOC established a new energy development office. In February 2008, CNOOC New Energy Investment Co., Ltd. was formally established. It is a wholly-owned secondary subsidiary directly under China Offshore Oil Corporation, which is in charge of the new energy business of China Offshore Oil Corporation and headquartered in Beijing.
