From 1963' s decision to build Dongsheng water supply project to 1965' s official supply of water to Hong Kong, it can be said that the water shortage problem in Hong Kong has been completely solved. During this period, it took about three years. Shen Dong water supply project is 83km long and flows through Sima, Qiling, Matan, Tangxia, Zhutang, Shaling, Shangpu, Yantian and Shenzhen.

The project is mainly composed of six dams, eight pumping stations, two regulating reservoirs and an artificial river, with a line length of16km. The total installed capacity of the project is 6,975 kilowatts, and the annual water supply to Hong Kong is 68.2 million cubic meters. In addition to supplying water to Hong Kong, it also irrigates168,500 mu of farmland along the project and drains more than 6,000 mu. At the same time, it provides more than 30 million cubic meters of drinking water to urban and rural areas along Shenzhen every year.
